Poetry. I love poetry so much. All of it. One time I skimmed through a book of Italian poetry that had the English version on one side and the Italian version on the other. I could only pick out a few of the Italian words, but it was still beautiful. I tried with French poetry once too, but that didn't work out as well. I don't know French like at all.

The Power of You: Writing in Second Person

The power of you. Sounds like the beginning to a really inspirational post, doesn't it? Actually, I'm going to talk about second person point of view. Why? Because I like it and want to write about it. No other reason really.

It's a passing thought. You probably didn't think to write a whole novel in second person. You probably didn't even realize that there were hundreds of novels written in second person. You probably didn't even think twice about this last paragraph being written in second, did you? Second is more common than you probably realize.

Big Imaginations and Little Plots

I love worldbuilding. I'm not very good at it, but for the seven years I've been putting words on paper, I've been creating my own worlds. My first novel was about an alternate universe that these kids could jump through to in their dreams. It wasn't a very good novel, of course. I was only like ten. However, it had a lot of imagination put into it. Through that novel blossomed several other novels that I got the privilege to co-author with my friend. She had worlds of her own that she had created and instilled in me was the love of making.

Like I said, I'm not very good at worldbuilding. Before this current novel, I didn't actually create anything new such as new species or a new language. But I made worlds none-the-less. The alternate universe in my above mentioned novel had magic in it, while the regular universe did not. Now I am working on a completely new novel that I got to build a world for. I'm having a lot of fun creating the history and the written language.

I found steampunk about two years ago. Before that, I had no idea what it was and I had honestly never even heard the word. It isn't a popular thing among the everyday people. You have to find the certain type of crowd that knows what steampunk is. When someone I know asks me what kind of book I am writing at the moment and I reply with "a steampunk fantasty", they have NO clue what I am talking about. Then I have the pleasure of explaining what steampunk is.

Hello, lovelies. I hope y'all are having a wonderful day.
Life is a beautiful thing, is it not? We get to breathe, see amazing things, drink coffee and sleep. And sometimes we get to spend all day in our pajamas. I mean, come on, who doesn't like that? But life can also be really stressful. We get caught up in school, work, family and probably all the extracurricular stuff that we do. Then our artistic work gets pushed to the back burner. And we wear ourselves out.

On a day to day basis, people are faced with problems, with hardships and with really busy schedules. It's easy to wear down and wear completely out. We've all been there. Been in the place where that blank page is just that. We can't see the words, we can't see the painting or drawing. It's just a blank canvas and will be nothing more. In our mind's eyes at that very moment, we can't see the possibilities. Our busy lives have crowded out everything else that is important to our souls.

How to Rock the Perfect Hero

Heroes. The main character of any story. Any and every story has some kind of hero in it, whether it be an imaginary hero, or one that is very much real. Today I chose two special people to focus on. If you don't know who they are by looking at the picture, then.... Well, you're missing out. The one on the left is the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who. The one on the right is Sherlock from... Sherlock. Both these characters come off two of BBC's famous shows. They are brilliant, clever and kind of both really gorgeous. However, the reason I chose these two out of every hero out there is their faults and the people that associate and are involved with them.

3 Reasons Introvert Creatives Should Sometimes Work Outside the Home (phew, that's a long title...)

I'm an introvert. Huge introvert, actually. I got like 95% on the MBTI test, not that tells anyone much. But I rarely leave my home. If I can avoid it, I don't hang around people. Some introverts love hanging out with people. I'm not saying all introverts are hermits, but the majority are. All my creative work used to come from me being in my bedroom and or on my couch. But last year I discovered the joy of writing in a coffee shop. I was able to actually focus more and to be able to write better stuff. The different setting got my creative juices to flow better. I was able to get a higher word count.

3 Reasons You Need a Love Interest in Your Story

(I wanted to quickly point out why I chose a lock for the picture. That's called a "love lock". Two people get their names carved into love locks and lock it to fence then throw the key into the water below. It's kind of a cool practice. Anyways, I just wanted to say why I had a lock as the picture.)

'Tis that wonderful time of the year where people give roses and chocolate and say "I love you". I don't mind this time of year in particular... But it isn't my favorite, like it might someone else's favorite. I've never been a romantic.

Creating "Memory Photo Shots" in Your Writing

Ever read a book and it's not your favorite book, but a certain description of something, or a character stayed with you? A blank piece of paper sits before you. Maybe it's a canvass or a computer document. Perhaps it's a blank SD card. The point is: it's blank. You can see it -- the vision -- you can almost touch it. It's right there, right before your eyes. But as you reach out to take it, to own it, you freeze. It's not beyond your reach. In fact, it's right in front of you. Inches away from your face and you can't grab it.

Stereotypical Villains and Broken Antagonists

I love the antagonists and villains of stories. They're as important as your main character/hero. They're involved in the story just as much as the protagonist. It's important to get this character right. Ultimately, you want your reader to both love and hate your villain. Like Loki. Everybody loves Loki and most people actually feel bad for him. He has the perfect backstory and is a broken soul, wandering around in a very broken world that he is trying to make more broken. Thor is trying to stop Loki from destroying the world, and yet he can always still see the good in Loki. that makes the best villain and hero pair, honestly.

A large part of my daily writing life revolves around symbolism. Honestly, symbolism is what holds our fictitious worlds together.

Holidays are coming up. You get breaks from school, work, life... You have some time to relax during this very special time of the year. As an artist, you are probably thinking about how much work you can accomplish while having no school. Should you try and set a goal of 25,000 this holiday season? Or let yourself take a break?
