Doctor
Who Fanfic:
Rose
Tyler and the human Doctor – Defenseless
Rose
pulled away from the Doctor and turned around just as the TARDIS was
disappearing, going off into all of time and space. She looked behind
her and the Doctor gave her a sad smile. “I'm just like him,” he
says, his eyes softening.
Rose
nods, looking back at the now-empty spot on the beach. The TARDIS had
left a square impression in the sand. The water lapped at it, tearing
at the sand and forcing one side of the square to wash away with the
waves. Rose sniffed, looked up at the Doctor and gave him a small
smile in return. “I knew one day we would be together,” she says
softly.
“My
brilliant Rose,” the Doctor sighs happily. He kisses her forehead
and draws her into a hug. Rose wraps her arms around his skinny waist
and takes in a deep breath.
“Come
on, you two,” Jackie says. “We need to go find my husband.”
Rose
looks back at the fading square in the sand one last time, biting her
lower lip. The Doctor intertwines his fingers with Rose's and they
walk across the beach with Jackie to the road. “Is he going to be
okay?” Rose asks, not being able to stop herself from looking back
again.
“He
always is,” Jackie replies.
Rose
looks into the eyes of the Doctor, so old... so full of wonder and
intelligence and she gets to grow old with this man. But she needed
to know the other Doctor would be okay. She wanted confirmation.
The
Doctor finally nods. “He will be,” he says.
Rose
takes a deep breath, the salty air of the Bad Wolf Bay tickling her
throat and lungs. “Alright. Let's go find dad and Tony.”
Jackie
puts her arm around Rose's shoulders. Rose, in response, puts her arm
around her mom's waist. The Doctor puts her arm around Rose's
shoulder on top of her mom's arm and Rose's arm around his waist.
They walk like that for a while down the road, chatting about their
new life in this alternate universe. When they reach a small town
Jackie gives her husband a call to come get them.
“Should
we eat something while we eat?” Jackie asks.
“Oh,
yes,” the Doctor says, giving them his cheesy smile.
His
smile is contagious, Rose thinks as she smiles just as big.
Jackie
walks into a restaurant and Rose and the Doctor follow her. “I
missed you, you know,” he says. “I missed you a lot.” He holds
her hand, kissing her temple. “I am him. I will just age with you.
That's the only thing that's different.”
Rose
stops walking, standing on her tip-toes to kiss his cheek. “I know.
I missed you, too. A lot.”
“Blimey,
something smells good,” the Doctor says, sliding into the booth,
Rose sliding next to him and Jackie on the other side.
The
waiter comes and takes their drink order. She comes back moments
later with three cups of steaming coffee. “Can I take your food
order?”
“Got
a special?” the Doctor asks.
“Fish
and chips,” the waiter replies, lowering her eyes and tucking a
piece of hair behind her ear.
“Three
of those?” The Doctor looks at Jackie and Rose, eyes looking at
them questioningly.
“Yes,”
Jackie says.
“Just
chips for me,” Rose says. The Doctor gives her a sidelong glance.
The
waiter writes that down and walks away, glancing over her shoulder
and giving the Doctor a shy smile.
“You
attract so much attention,” Rose jokes, nudging his arm, her tongue
rubbing over the teeth in the back of her mouth.
“So...
this is slow life?” The Doctor stares out the window, looking up at
the sky.
“Yeah.
It's great, isn't it?” Rose says sarcastically.
“Oh
yeah,” the Doctor looks over at her, “Just great. Can't wait to
live this slow life.”
“At
least we're back together.” Rose slips her fingers between the
Doctors, squeezing his hand.
He
looks back out the window, frowning to himself. “Rose... Look at
the sky.”
Rose
leans over and looks at the sky, several different ships coming down
from the clouds. Silver, circular and flat like. “What are they?”
Rose asks.
“We're
about to find out.” He says, raising his eye brows and grinning.
Rose
and the Doctor slip out of the booth.
“We
just got done fighting monsters. It's someone else's turn,” Jackie
says, following after them.
The
Doctor points his sonic screw-driver up at the sky and presses the
button. It releases the sound waves. He squints. “Sontarans!
Allons-y!”
Grenades
and bullets start falling from the sky. The Doctor grabs Rose's hand
and runs towards the building, trying to get out of the firing range.
A bullet hits Rose in the back, she stumbles forward, a startled cry
escaping her lips.
“No!
Rose!”
Rose
stumbles to the ground, trying to catch her breath.
“Rose!”
Jackie screams.
The
Doctor holds Rose in his arms, the bullets and grenades still falling
from the ships. People scream, shout and run. Panic ensues around
them.
The
Doctor blinks several times, the noise fading around him.
Pain
shoots through Rose's back. She struggles to breathe, a tear drop
falling from her eye.
The
Doctor holds her close to him. “Don't leave me, Rose. Stay with me.
You're going to be okay.”
